Book Review of"The Beekeeper's Pupil "The Beekeepers Pupil by Sara George is a work of fiction, but it is also a beautiful glance into the life of one of the great early beekeeping scientists, Francois Huber. Blind since a young man, Huber is fascinated with the mysterious world of the bees and desires to study them rigourously. With the help of his faithful secretary Francois Burnens, he is able to investigate this dark, strange world and unravel some of its secrets. They create one of the first glass observation hives to gain insight into the dark inner workings of a beehive. Together they prove that the queen goes on a mating flight and other fascinating facts such as workers delaying the emergance of virgin queens. I think modern day beekeepers can learn a tremendous amount of information from this novel, based on the research of Huber. With thought, care, and study, the inner workings of nature can be revealed, even to a blind man. This story is a fascinating glimpse into the 18th century. Huber's rigorous experiments and insistance on making no assumptions are a valuable lessons even in today's fast paced world, where we often take too much for granted. Product Details
