Starting out Right: An Introduction to Simple, Smart Beekeeping

Beekeeping should be easy, fun, and enjoyable. Figuring out what’s right, what’s necessary, and how to keep your bees alive is often difficult when starting out and sifting through contradictory information. This 1 day intensive course starts you off on the right foot providing the crucial information you need to succeed as a new beekeeper.

This classroom course covers:

  • How to start your colony
  • What equipment you need and what you can skip
  • First visit to the hive
  • Monitoring colony health
  • Essential rules for healthy hives
  • Building your colony up strong that first year

Organic Spring Management: Keeping Bees Healthy & Stopping Swarms

Spring is the beekeeper’s busiest time of year. It’s also a crucial time, when colonies can die if the weather doesn’t cooperate. Learn how to make sure your colony builds up strong and produces lots of honey, without swarming away. Discover how to manage the brood nest for colony health.

This course helps you prep your bees for the nectar flow, so they produce lots of honey:
  • What to do when, so you don't freeze your bees
  • Time to reverse your hive bodies and how best to do it
  • Swarm management

Organic Varroa & Small Hive Beetle Control

Varroa management is critical to keeping your bees alive. Learn how to use the biology of the bee against the biology of the mite to keep your hives thriving. Hive Inspection: What am I really seeing?

You have a hive, you’ve opened the box, but making sense of the jumble of bees inside isn’t easy. This is one of the hardest things for beekeepers to learn. How do you recognize if your hive is healthy or needs some help? What do you actually do during a hive inspection? How do you work an apiary?

This course walks you through the essentials, teaching you to read your hive.

  • Recognize the different larval stages
  • Learn to understand and manage the brood nest
  • See how to find and handle a queen to keep her safe
  • Encourage honey production
  • Monitor for varroa mites
  • Learn simple tricks for saving time in the apiary

Winter Ready: Prepare your Colonies for Survival
