Apiary Inspection: A Service that Protects Beekeepers

Maryland Beekeepers should register their bees with the state, so they can be advised of potential breakouts of American Foulbrood and benefit from the State's wonderful inspection program. Cheerful, friendly Cybil Preston currently heads up the Apiary Inspection program. Her goal is to help beekeepers keep healthy hives. Colony registration is free and comes with some great benefits. Register your apiary for better colony health. The apiary inspectors can help you identify disease and health problems in your hive, helping you become a better beekeeper.

By registering you become part of the official tally of Maryland beekeepers, helping to make your voice in agriculture heard. Honey bee hives provide an important pollination service. Make sure your hives are counted, so we can demonstrate the value of honey bees to the state and ensure our apiary inspection program continues to serve beekeepers.

In Maryland, you can receive free expert help from six experienced apiary inspectors by taking two steps: 1) registering your hives; and 2) making contact via phone or email. The MD State budget has issued cuts that directly impact this important beekeeping service, allocating no money for apiary inspections. Beekeeping is a community endeavor, with health problems quickly spreading from one apiary to the next through robbing when left untreated. Make sure your bees stay healthy by supporting our Maryland Apiary Inspection Service. They welcome donations from all beekeepers.

Please make checks payable to "MDA" with a note stating the check supports the Maryland Apiary Inspection Fund and send to:
